Just finished the Puyallup Fair this sunday and man what a blur, I remember the first day and the last but its a blur inbetween. Great show for me though. And today I 'm at a wedding Tradeshow all day.There is usually alot of opportunities at these functions to increase biz. I hope that is the case today. This is a caricature I did for a couple of radio celebs in my towns market. I sent this to them but the bums never even said thanks for taking the time.

Got a call today from a rep for a golf tourney, that needed a Caricature of Ryan Stiles (Who's line is it anyway?) It's his tournament and the had a few folks fall down on the job before me getting this done. So we agreed on a price and I sent this to her about an hour later. I think it looks ok.

OK I know... But it got real busy! BUT!! I will begin again, promise. Starting on Tuesday the 1st.

Anyway the reason, I 'm posting today is because I had the coolest gig in my carreer yesterday.
I was contacted by a client about a month ago to do a special gig for him. He wanted to hire me to draw he and his fiance', with her standing there and him on one knee proposing. I thought cool that will be fun because he had it planned that I would be outside the restaurant when they came out from lunch at 1:30. But I had just set up at 1:00 when a couple came out and the man looked like he wanted a caricature. Now I had only had contact with the client through email, so I asked their names as if thats what I always did and confirmed the this was the couple. I drew the girl in a snap and told not to look so she went around the side while I drew the guy. I did it the way he wanted and then began to turn it around as I coordinated with him and This guy was on it! He dropped down on one knee really fast with the ring ready while the girl looked at the caricature trying to absorb what she was seeing, And He asked her! The girl was caught completely off guard and was shaking but said yes! Ya know I'm an old curmugen but that moment made me catch my breath. It was the coolest thing I've every been apart of in my carreer. Awesome!!!

Heres one that alot of folks won't know unlest they are american football fans, this is Chris Mortensen, a football commetator. Strange choice huh, well the reason I did this one was because of having seen the caricature done of him thats on TV. Here it is

Dang, its been a while since my last post, but I've got a new deal that should keep me posting for a long time. I'm a bit nervous to make this announcement but I've wanted to do this for a while now, and a freind said to go for it, SO..... As of today I'll be posting a caricature of a celebrity, either star or political everyday for the next 356 days, one whole year YIKES! Each will take from 5 minutes to all day depending on my time and desire. But it'll be fun I'm sure. Anyway, I don't know who is out there to see these but here it goes.

The first istallment is , well who else... The pop icon that had awesome music but became a caricature in the end.

Man, I had a great day today, its two in the morning now, I got my work done early yesterday(now) and went to the Experience Music project at the seattle center with my buddy Jason. They had the Jim Henson Muppet collection there along with all the other cool things and boy it was really fun. Then we went to the beach and hung out, looked at women for a while and finished off the night with some awesome karaoke. A full day to be sure. See ya in 6 hours, lol.

I'm feeling just a bit slumpy these last few days but I have been quite active with my art up till then, I don't see this staying around long. It's probably becaue I've got so much paying work right now, I'm just creatively wiped when I sit down to do some of my own. The comic is moving slow because I'm painting it myself(YIKES). It may be the turn-O-D-century before I'm done. MAN, I admire comic colorists, they just fly through the pages of their books. I'll looking for some practical applications of a good colorist's methods for doing comics now, because I don't want to run out of patience and put this project back in the bin.

This is the painting that started me on this journey to do a book way back in 2001. I was at a game company that was near death and had lots of time on my hands because work was scarce. This was painted in photoshop.

I was looking round and found a small pic of the artwork of my teacher. His name was John Johns and he was a giant talent. There is very little out there about him but he was a real big deal back in the 50's and 60's. With covers for TV Guide, Time and many others. I wish, I could talk to him today and say thank you for the gift you gave me. The life you opened up for me by training me in this art. Thank you Mr. Johns

OK now this one , theres no imbellishment. This guy was jacked up. I wish he had sat down in front of me OOH MAN!!! I would have had a field day!!! But all I got was a glimpse. I was trying not to laugh at this one, and so were my collegues.

I was a little mean to this guys face as he didn't look this bad, but he kinda dissed one of the caricatures of one of our artist, so while it was going on i got a good look at him and really drew him how I felt he looked, not how he really looked. I don't do this too often, but he'll never know anyway....right?

These were some prime hunting grounds for funny faces. We have all seen a guy like this, he has all his features stuffed down at the bottom of his head, and a giant orb above. He had his whole family in tow and got his kid draw(not by me) so I had a chance to get a good look at him.

I drew a couple of fast walking profiles, although thats not my style these guys just had to be done. I did a different hair style on the guy with glasses because he was wearing a ballcap, so I imagined him without one. The other guy was just pure country, and I about fell out when I saw that neck!

This guy was not impressed by our booth or our talent, I wasn't drawing at the time so I got a real good look at him. His face never changed and then he just left, oh well ya can't please em all.

This asian kid was great because his face just shrunk when he smiled and the bushy hair was cool too. His sisters got draw, but he wanted no part of that deal, but he did enjoy laughing at his sisters.

Ok heres a bunch of the drawing all together. This first guy was with his family, the fair is near an army fort and a airforce base so ya see lots of hair cuts like this one. But this guys jaw was so big, I just had to draw it. He only wanted his wife and kid drawn because he knew what would happen. So after he left I drew this.

Second day of the vet show, BORING! I was working for another company today and they were cordoned off from the show, which meant that I only drew 20 caricatures. I love getting paid for what I do but sitting for 4 hours with nothing to do is a bummer. What was funny was that the people who did come up wanted pics of their pets draw, which is cool, but the pics were all tiny images on cellphones or camera and the dog or cat was black... yeah. Oh well, I could be diggin' ditches..

Just got back from the gig and I made a mistake, it was a vetenarian tradeshow. Man I just get these gigs mixed up sometimes. Anyway the gig went well but I had to draw the people in almost complete darkness, ya kinda lose the features when that happens. But I'm not complaining, it CASH MONEY!!!

Speaking of caricatures, I putting these up because I drew them while bored at a state fair. These aren't real people but they were definitely inspired by the folks I saw walking by my booth. I have a bunch to load so I'll drop some on alittle at a time. I just love the

human face, you just never run out of stuff to draw.

Well, saturday brings more work for me at a dental show today. I be using the projector too today which for me is something I'm still getting used too. But I got some work done for a client yesterday that was fun. The people I drew had great faces and were really fun to draw. Here are a few examples. I think when these folks send their pictures to me they have no idea whats gonna happen,lol. I wonder how the lady is gonna like her caricature, but she was giving the powergrin. The guy with the goat tee was really fun because he had so much to work with and the other guy because he had so little.

Well I sit in my office with a boatload of work to do. My internet caricature biz has picked up alot and now I have plenty to do. I do these business cards with the persons caricature on them and its been pretty cool the response. Here are a few from this week.

Heres a pic that is just kinda out there. I did this for fun a couple of weeks ago because I found the sketch in my bin. Since my actual job is as a caricature artist i guess i ought to put something caricaturey up. This to me proves that everybody needs a vacation sometimes.

Here is an older one that depicts a rider and his mount under attack from parasitic darts. When you fly into territories where these creatures live, you have to be ready or they can bring down the largest of dragons. Their like sky pirahna.

Well the last page is in the works and the good news for me is that I've been too busy to finish it lately. But on to the other project. As all my friends know I have been working on a dragon book for .....ever. Well, dang it I'm gonna finish! And to finish means drawing and painting. Well, Dang it I'm gonna start adding stuff to share, I'm no blogger for sure but I'll give this thing a shot. I'm working on a couple of projects that I finally have had some breakthoughs on and sometime feedback helps.

The first is i'm a frustrated comic artist, and i just never figured out how to do sequential art well, at least thats how I feel. I love the medium and the visual images that are in comics just get my creative juices flowing. Anyway, I'm tippytoeing into this realm again after years of being away. So here some of the stuff i'm doing, Most are paints over drawings I did years ago, but soon I'll be back to doing pages(shiver) and I'll see how it goes.

Well I just got back from my dads funeral. It's very strange indeed, I seem to float along on this feeling that he's still around and I can pick up the phone and give him a ring. Something i didn't do very much over the years. I guess I did what alot of people do, I took him for granted. But once he got sick, I tried to catch up as quick as I could.

I was fortunate, we got to have some great times on my last visits, with hopes for more. But as I looked at him and listened I could tell he was giving me the last bits of himself I was going to receive. Man I miss him.

I have close a friend who have lost loved ones and I was there to support them in a time of need. I watched my friend tussle with the realities that faced those who continue on after their loved one is gone.

But I was insulated by the fact that it wasn't my Dad.

Some good things came out of this though, I had a reconnection with family members that I, in my solitary life have wandered away from. I just wish that it wasn't death that brought us together. I dug out my albums today and saw my dad, all young and slim, with me just a little guy on a toy tractor he bought me. I was no more than three when the picture was taken but I can remeber it well.

He looked 50 feet tall and super strong and could do anything. As I viewed him in his casket through blurry eyes I remembered that picture.

At this point I'm trying to rationalize these things by saying to myself "your not special, every child if they live long enough will do this" and other exercises in futility. Because at this moment I could start laughing or bust out crying at any second so I have to self regulate around people. I'm sure this will minimize as time goes by but right now, I just what my dad back.....

It's funny the things that come to you in a fever, the idea that me, the guy that types 14 words per minute can be a blogger. WELL yer right, I'm not a blogger. I'm a caricature artist. And I gotta tell ya, YOU people look really funny to me. No offense, it my job, and my life so it has to be that way. I think of some pretty goofy things while I'm sitting in from of you drawing you're face. I imagine this blog will be where I record those things. At least until the fever breaks...
